OUR VISION— OF PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT
Alpha Sprint: kicking off the project
The Alpha Sprint marks the initialization of the product development project, following agile principles, in particular the SCRUM method. As a reminder, a sprint represents a defined period during which specific work is to be carried out. As you may have guessed, the Alpha Sprint is the very first sprint, focusing on the creation of a minimal but functional version of the product or system.
At BeTomorrow, this stage aims to remove major technical uncertainties, thus setting the stage for the rest of the project. Customer and project constraints are integrated from the outset to ensure optimal adaptation of the process. This stage involves identifying the functionalities to be implemented, as well as legal and confidentiality constraints, while taking into account budget and schedules.
The Alpha Sprint has two essential objectives:
Functional expertise: formalize requirements and determine the functional scope.
Technical expertise: architecture, design and technology choices.
Definition of Done (DoD)
The DoD, inherited from the Scrum method, compiles a list of criteria to be checked, guaranteeing that the work requested will be 100% completed. This approach makes it possible to measure actual project completion against business objectives, and avoids the classic effect of less experienced teams completing only 80% of features. However, the cost of completing the remaining 20% of each feature is literally incalculable. This situation creates a tunnel where it becomes impossible to present a partial version of the product to users, because no element is entirely finished.
